Making An Emmulsion: On a day like no other.
LESSONS you LEARN
No don't tell me it's not working, that can't be, not after my water phase and oil phase are all measured out and placed in the bain-marie, Oh no this Isn't happening to me right now.
the week started on a fast lane For us at TINS on Monday 14th December 2020. Our formulator Esther was running on a tight schedule to get a few products out on Wednesday and with just 48 hours before the delivery day she had to bring in her A-game, this means She had to make a cream base which she can then later Split and add in the Functioning (Actives ) Ingredients given the Specific skin type and nature of Improvement we wish to achieve from the use of these products, so we were to make 1 liter of the Cream base.
All excited as usual, She was ready to get the Formulation right on the way. At this point we are guessing that lady Esther got used to always having her equipment work all the time.
After 3 years of formulating Skincare products and hair care products, she finally didn't do her pre-formulation exercise and that almost cost her an entire batch of body cream.
The first lesson to all formulators:
Never begin Without firstly getting things going with your PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT BRIEF (pre formulating on paper), this will help you get your formula right and set the ball rolling Second to this is you should always Calibrate your equipment even before you measure out your raw materials/Ingredients. If you have been in the business of formulating for personal use or friends and business, this guide is for you, you will thank me later.
Calibrating here means you should first check all your equipment, ensure all equipment is all in good condition to give you optimal results, your ph meter, thermometer, Digital Scale, hand blender, and more.
